At the age of eight, Abraham Lincoln moved to Indiana together with his parents. Even after immigrating, Abraham Lincoln never had the chance to get adequate education. At the age of ten years, Lincoln’s mother died leaving him with his father. In the course of arguing with Douglas about the election, Lincoln gained popularity and was later nominated to be the president of the Republican in 1860 for the good reputation he had nationally. When he became the party president, he worked towards making republican party a very powerful national organization. At same time, he devoted himself in uniting Democrats from the northern and managed to persuade them to join the union. Lincoln never allowed the world to overlook the issue of civil war and thus in 1863 he declared those who were held as slaves to be freed in a confederation. In his open speaking, he warned the people against civil war which was aimed at destroying the government. He also promised to defend and protect people no matter what the course it would take. Abraham Lincoln was prepared and willing to use force to protect federal law together with the union. In 1864, when the union military celebrated the end of war, Lincoln was elected again as the president. In his role as the president he was bendable encouraging the southerners to join hands to build peace and to reunite together for the betterment of the country. The spirit that led him was that of the second inaugural address which is emblazoned in a wall on the Lincoln memorial in Washington DC (The white house, n.d).

Lincoln worked towards achieving one goal of making U.S. a country which is governed by fairness, oneness and equality of all people. Abraham emphasized on the importance of building up one nation which was full of virtues. He died on the 14th April, 1865 at Ford’s Theater, through assassination incidence that was carried out by John Wilkes Booth who was an actor and who deliberated that he was supporting the southerners by killing him. After his death the fight for peace stalled for sometimes and the possibility of restoring peace once again became a major challenge (The white house, n.d).
