Before we discuss the function of global capital market, we`d better consider about generic capital market first. Basically, the generic capital market is the fundamental and essential factor to support such a modern economy. To do business or manufacture products or manage a company, we have to depend on generic capital market to maintain business and make a profit of company. It`s impossible to manage company or business without support from generic capital market. Actually, commertial banks and investment banks play a role to connect both by different way. A capital market brings together those who want to invest money and those who want to borrow money. Those who want to invest money include corporations with surplus cash individuals, and non bank financial institutions. Those who borrow money include individuals, companies and government.

why do we need a global capital market? Because domestic capital markets are not sufficient. A global capital market benefits both borrowers and investors. It benefits borrowers by increasing the supply of funds avaliable for borrowing and by lowering the cost of capital. It benefits investors by providing a wider range of investment opportunities, thereby allowing them to build portfolio of international investments that diversify their risks. To be wide extend, global capital market gives borrowers and investors to more opportunities and less risk in business.

)Describe the nature of the foreign exchange market

First of all, we go through the concept of the foreign capital market. The foreign exchange market is a market for converting the currency of one country into that of another country. And also, an exchange rate is simply the rate at which one currency is converted into another. Without the foreign exchange market, international trade and international investment on the scale that we see today would be impossible; companies would have to resort to barter. The foreign exchange market is the lubricant that enables companies based in countries that use different currencies to trade with each other.

Obviously, the international trade and investment have their risks because future exchange rates cannot be perfectly predicted. Some of these risks can be insured against by using instruments offerd by the foreign exchange market, such as the forward exchange contracts. Commonly refering to foreign exchange risk, it is provide some insurance against the risks that arise from changes in exchange rates even though it cannot provide complete insurance.

To be summary, the foreign exchange market is critical and works a positive role to facilitate for international trade and investment.

)Discuss the implications for international business

There are a number of clear implications for international business. First, International businesses understand the influence of exchange rates on the profitability of trade and investment deals. Adverse changes in exchange rates can make apparently profitable deals unprofitable. The risk introduced into international business transactions by changes in exchange rates is referred to as foreign exchange risk. Means of hedging against foreign exchange risk are avaliable. Forward exchange rates and currency swaps allow companies to insure against this risk.

Second, International business must also understand the forces that determine exchange rates. It a company wants to know how the value of a particular currency is likely to change over the long term on the foreign exchange market. It should look closely at those economic fundamentals that appear to predict long-term exchange rate movements(i.e.,the growth in a company`s money supply,it`s inflation rate, and it`s nominal interest rates). That kinds of fundamentals are sort of the forces that determine exchange rates.

There are many issues people are faced with trying to socialized with their culture. From the time we are children we are taught gender roles; to be a certain way, act a certain way and socialize a certain way. Socialization begins the day a child is born, both explicitly and implicitly. If we do not follow these values and norms that society has strapped upon us we are seen as outcasts. Mores are placed upon society, these are limitations and enforced norms that people are expected to follow. We are taught to achieve the highest status possible while following the social framework that has been placed upon us.

The option that I choose for this paper project was film analysis. I watched the movie Boys Don’t Cry. This movie in summary was about a young girl who was having a sexual identity crisis. She was born a female but inside wanted to be a male. She dresses, acted, talked, and changed her name all to appear as a man. This movie was a lot like the movie Ma Vie En Rose we analyzed in class. The basic ideas were the same but the two movies had two very different outcomes. Each movie approached societal views in different ways, one showed the repercussions from a child point and the other from an adult perspective.

When a person in society is “different” people view then as being weird. The apparent repercussions are show on the surface but there are many hidden views that aren’t always seen on the outside. There are responses from the immediate social circle, responses from a larger social context and ones own personal views on the topic. In this case the movie dealt with a young woman having a sexual identity crisis. The young girl named Teena Brandon changed her name to Brandon Teena to socialize herself as a man. She was striving to adopt the male gender role, and genderlect, trying to be accepted as a male in society. Views of her immediate social circle beginning with her family were very mixed. Her brother in the movie did not accept what she was doing but did help her when possible, only until she put herself in a position of immediate harm. He finally kicked her out when realizing she really thought she could pull the male role off this time, after so many other failed attempts. The rest of her family in the movie is unheard of, only being lied about to her new found friends. She begins to move on from her brothers and ends up in a small town north of where she is from. She befriends a group of people who’s social structure is lacking much stability. They take her in with the thinking that she is a he. A friendship develops amongst them, she is now being accepted as Brandon, without anyone really knowing what she is. In this social structure these people do not accept of this behavior, nor would they accept her if they had known of her secret. The group is a bunch of tight-nit, small-town, gay-hating, drunks who have many psychological problems. Their view of being gay is completely socially unacceptable with serious repercussions if known about. The movie continues with a love affair developing between Brandon and one of the misfits in the group. Brandon is brought into the group as a part of there family and the relationship is accepted until an incident occurs between her and her girlfriend. The two become intimate and at one point Brandon’s breasts are partly exposed. Nothing is said, the incident is kept quiet due to the repercussions of the group. The movie continues with Brandon being thrown in jail for past crimes committed. When his girlfriend comes to visit seeing that he is in the female part of the jail she knows, questions a little but doesn’t push the subject, knowing what would happen. When the relationship becomes unaccepted because of lies told, Brandon is placed on the spot to confess. Her friends then think she is a freak, she becomes unaccepted by all accept for the girlfriend. The two men of the circle of friends are pissed. They take out there own aggressions upon Brandon, stating that she was crazy, sick, weird, and a freak for trying to pass herself off as a man to them. Serious repercussions occur. In this immediate social context it is blatantly unaccepted by all.

The larger social context is always one of confusion. Depending on where you are geographically people react differently to different issues. If you are a homosexual in San Francisco, California no one give you a second glance. If you are a cross-dressing individual in a small no-name town in the southern part of Texas it is a totally different story. The reaction of the larger social group is always unknown. In this movie the lifestyle Brandon leads is socially unacceptable in her town as it is in the small town she ends up in. Even after she is brutally raped by the two men the police officer asks her why the hell she’s running around telling everyone she’s a boy. He begins to ask her what she is thinking, and doesn’t she know better. He asks her what is wrong with her, when he is told she is having a sexual identity crisis his reaction is of dismay and disgust. He does not feel sorry for her because of the way she “is”. The movie concludes with a brutal killing of Brandon. The two men that violently raped her ended up killing her. They found out where she was found her and killed her because of the lies she had told. They viewed her as a freak who had polluted there town with her disgusting ways. She is shot gunpoint in the head then her lifeless dead body is then stabbed and shot several more times. At the time of the killing she was hiding out at on of the fellow friends houses, she was also shot and killed for being an accomplice to the freak.

Opinion is usually never placed in assignments, however when asked what my own critical response to this topic I state in in this way; I do not agree upon the ending circumstance of the film however this I feel is very true in real life events. To reiterate on the topic, I don’t agree with homosexuality in any way, but I do feel people have their own right to be any way they want without me judging their lifestyles. I have many gay and lesbian friends who do cross-dress just as Brandon did in this movie. I don’t agree with the lifestyle choice they have made but I don’t judge them for that. The are what they are. I accept them any way no matter what the lifestyle choice. The killing of a person because of the way they practice their sexuality is wrong. These hate crimes are not rare in society either. They do happen more than people know. Majority of these crimes do happen in small towns such as the one in this movie. Growing up I a very small town I can completely understand the mentality of these small town folk. Not saying that their intelligence level is any less than big city people; only stating that when you are in a small town people think, act, believe, and are taught certain ideas that go back to the “old school” days of slavery and deep religious roots. The idea of homosexuality is unheard of and if you are, you are ran out of town and thought to be possessed by the devil. The reactions of the people in this movie do not surprise me. There have been other incidents like this one with a young boy in Montana. Unfortunately both of these stories are true with horrific endings. The way people are socializing is different with every generation. New ideas are being incorporated with new ways of living being accepted more now than ever before. The way people are socializing to their cultures is changing and more not-so unaccepted ideas and practices are becoming more widely accepted.

Prostitution is often called the world’s oldest profession. It’s been around since the beginning of time and can be traced back to ancient civilization. Prostitution hasn’t stopped after thousands of years and it’s not going to stop anytime soon. Prostitution is already legal in some parts of the world, but not in Canada and the United States. I think it should be. I think that legalizing it would solve more problems than it would create. If it was legalized people could be protected from diseases, the streets could be kept cleaner, and prostitutes would have a safer working environment. Does prostitution really hurt anybody? It benefits both the prostitute, and the customer. The prostitute gets their money, and the customer gets their pleasure. It fulfils both people’s needs. Even though prostitution is not legal, it will continue to happen. They will find a way around the law, and continue with their business. If it is legalized, laws can be made to keep prostitutes and people safer than they are now.

Some people don’t think much of prostitutes. They think that they are all drug addicts who spread diseases. This may be true in some cases, but many are just trying to make a living and are very clean. For the few bad ones, they would be the ones who would most benefit from legalization. They could be provided with the necessary health and safety items to prevent any diseases or sicknesses from spreading. If prostitution was legal, they could have a designated place to work. This would keep residential neighbourhoods and other valued streets clean. It will be impossible to stop prostitution but it can be controlled. The government could legalize prostitution requiring the prostitute had a permit, and got drug tests, and medical exams on a regular basis. If any banned substances or diseases were found, they would be stopped. Prostitution would be considered a business and would have to pay taxes like everyone else. The tax money could be used for something useful, like helping the prostitutes find a better job, and help get them off the streets. If any violations were detected, then the law would be enforced.

Another benefit to legalizing it is that prostitutes would no longer need a pimp. This would help prevent pressure to drug use. It would stop pimps from abusing their prostitutes, and the prostitutes wouldn’t be afraid to quit their job. Other opinions are that prostitution should stay illegal. They think that if the government legalizes prostitution, they are turning themselves into pimps. They are taking responsibility for prostitutes. This may be partly true but at least the government won’t beat the girls and lead them towards drugs.

Does becoming a prostitute make you less of a person? I think a person’s choice of occupation should not be put down. It’s that person’s choice to do what they do and, whether you agree with it or not, they still deserve some respect. Some are concerned for the prostitute’s children. What does a child tell the kids at school that their parents do for a living? This is one problem I have not got a solution to. There will always be an ethical concern. The problem exists now, and it will exist if prostitution is legalized.

There are many fair arguments against prostitution but I think the benefits to legalizing prostitution are greater. If you legalize it, you can offer more help and protection to the prostitutes. The people will be kept safer. It is going to happen whether we like it or not, so I say we control it. Don’t let be harmful to society. The human sex drive can’t be prohibited, so why is it? Fighting against human nature is a battle that can’t be won, so why fight it?

Over the years the federal minimum wage standards have been changing, and over the course of this paper things will be told about the changes. The years will be a useful tool. As the years increased so did the minimum wage, and it is still changing today. Acts will be passed and facts will be spilled all over the pages, so lets get on with the entertainment.

In the year of 14, minimum wage was actually at 40 cents. They decided it should be raised to 75 cents and hour. Back then, that seemed like quite a bit of money. As the years went on that seemed that a pretty steady pay raise. Not long after that happening did the Fair Labor Standards decide to raise it again. Only 6 short years went by and the minimum wage was raised up to 1 dollar an hour. Which brings me to my next point, wage increase.

Year after year the wages continued to rise, less at a time but more frequently. In 161 it went from 1 dollar and 15 cents to 1 dollar and 5 cents in the same year. “The amendments extended coverage to employees of retail trade enterprises with exceeding $1 million annually, although individual establishments within those covered enterprises were their annual sales fell below $50,000.”(DOL WHD)From October 4, 18 to September 1, 17 the minimum wage factor was raised an entire $4.0. Now is that considered a good difference or not?

According to a newspaper in 16 “The present federal minimum wage is $4.5 an hour. Minnesota’s is $4.65 (Economist Newspaper Ltd.). There was a new bill passed from both chambers of the state legislature saying, “all corporations employing more than 0 people and taking more that $5,000 a year in state or local subsidies would have to pay their workers wages “at least equal” to the federal poverty level for a family of four.” The wages and benefits would probably equal about $7.8 an hour. Next, the living wages in America today.

live paper help

Living wage is an issue we have in America today, we have it in our very own St. Paul, MN. Living wage was enacted on January , 17, and requires that the publicity of subsidized businesses to employ at least 60% of its city residents and pay them above minimum wages. The entire purpose for the living wage campaign was just to get it so that the people could improve all of the living standards that people in urban classes have to deal with. On to my next state, Minnesota.

“Proposals to create “living wage” jobs in St. Paul, Minnesota lacked “a basic business perspective” and would “convert St. Paul to a desert island by requiring more of a return on investment from companies than neighboring states and communities,”argued Steve Holupchinski, president of the local Chamber of Commerce (Economic Affairs Bureau). Yet another quote said by the chief political aide of St. Paul Mayor Norm Coleman, “The proposals are “the mother of all job killers” and a “bureaucratic nightmare.” After that, the supreme courts decisions.

On September 4, 00 the supreme court had declared an ordinance that New Orleans had been proposing with a 6-1 decision. The supreme court says, “State law prohibits local minimum wages” (Louisiana Employment Law Letter). If the local communities were to continue with the variations in minimum wage rates it would eventually lead to a statewide economic instability and decline. Next, employers of the next century.

In September of 001, employers were required to pay their employees 6.15 per hour or a $1 over the required minimum wage. If these employers did not comply with the law, “they could have been charged with a misdemeanor punishable by a fine up to $00 for each day and each employee who wasn’t paid the higher wage” (Louisiana Employment Law Letter). This law was finally passed in New Orleans on February , 00. Following, Africa’s changes in the minimum wages.

In Africa, there was a little different fight about minimum wages, which included farmers. “The labour department will unveil the minimum wage level and basic employment conditions for farm works, following hard on the heels of the announcement of the minimum wage for domestic works” (Africa News Service). It is said that the minimum wage with be a disappointment for many farm owners. Finally, the minimum wage standards have changed.

The years have gone by and many things have changed. Maybe someday the minimum wage will be up to a decent enough way to help out people to be able to survive on it without getting a second job. The minimum wage laws will continue changing so the world will just have to change with it.
